Reunion50 Update #2

Reunion50 planning is under way and is set for October 20 / 21 , 2023 in Corpus Christi, Texas. We have booked the venues for both Friday and Saturday night events. You can read more about them on this site under PAGES.

So far, there will be a Friday night mixer called Re-Connect that will be hosted at Joe's Crab Shack located on the T-Heads. This will include both outside and inside space and a casual buffet. What a great time to re-connect and get ready for the big event Saturday night.

Saturday night will be at the HEB House on Ocean Drive with both outside and inside space, mostly outside with a huge covered pavilion and green space. Its a gorgeous setting for our reunion! The night will include a very nice full buffet dinner, set ups provided, plus so much more as always.

Your Reunion Planning Team is working hard to get all the details done making Reunion50 one for the record.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

  • Keep locating alumni that you know and get them plugged in.
  • Mark the dates down on your calendar and don't miss it.
  • Be willing to volunteer your time with set up, tear down, registration, and other needs we may have.

There you have it! Get ready for REUNION50

REUNION50 Update #1

We just added the locations for both Friday night and Saturday night events that we are so excited about. It took a lot of work looking for the right places and the Reunion Team did an incredible job to make sure we secured the best deal. Once again our reunion time will be amazing!

We are now in the planning mode for Reunion50 and coming up with lots of great ideas and optional events to offer. We will be using an incredible reunion planning app starting this November that will give you a lot more details so be watching for that.

Check out the updated pages above and get the scoop on where to go on reunion weekend. We will be posting more details as we get them and pass them on to you.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?

First, mark your calendar and make plans to attend. Second, find alumni and get them to join our Facebook group Carroll Class of 73 so they get updated info on the reunion. If they are not on Facebook, tell them to email us at carrollreunion@yahoo.com. We can add people there also. Third, pray for great weather that weekend. See you there!

Reunion50: Save the Date

This just happened!

Reunion50 is booked and the dates are set. After months of searching for the perfect spot, visiting venues, making phone calls, getting quotes, emails and team meetings we found the perfect place to celebrate 50 years of friendships for the Class of 73. We looked high and low and even out of Corpus but ended up in our hometown Corpus Christi for a weekend of fun and re-connecting with alumni. Mark your calendar for these dates. More details coming so come back often.

50 Years of Memories: Friends for Life

It was 1973. As graduation closed in, both fear and excitement were on my mind thinking about what I would do next. The next minute I was walking across the stage in cap and gown being handed a piece of paper that proved I made it. I am now a Carroll High School Class of 1973 graduate along with 650+ others that became alumni that day. Here we are now, sliding into 50 years later.

Since the very first reunion in 1983, I have been on the planning team. Our first 10-year reunion was in Corpus Christi at the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach. The 20-year reunion was in Corpus at the Omni hotel downtown. The 30-year reunion was a big milestone for us again in Corpus at the Omni Hotel. Then the 40-year arrived and we celebrated in Port A at the Sandcastle Resort. That was one of the best for me! We figured out we were not getting younger so we planned a 5-year reunion that led us to Reunion45 in Port A at the Seashell Village Resort. It is hard to grasp but we are planning Reunion50 in 2023 now. Our goal for all reunions has been to get as many alumni together as possible. It takes a ton of work and a lot of hours but with the team we have, we have pulled off some amazing events.

Other goals include making it affordable for all, fun, with a time to rekindle those old friendships. The events in Corpus were great and the events in Port A were great. After the 45th reunion, the team all agreed that the 50th should be big, something new and different, like never before.

Would you agree that 50 years later, it is all about re-connecting, remembering high school days, catching up, making a vacation out of it, and having a good time together as a class? We can do all that at any location. We did the days of going back to the high school, driving by our old house, and seeing how Corpus has changed!

We are currently looking for reunion locations in CC, and Port A. Port A by far has the best venues and the most affordable but we are considering all options.

If you remember, for the 45th reunion, we had a difficult time getting alumni to register. We even threatened to cancel all our hard work preparing because not enough people had registered and we were not going to be able to cover the cost. We pleaded and at the last minute, we made it. Here we are 5 years later with 200+ on our Facebook group and in the planning process. We have lost some over the years and our group is not getting any younger. Knowing that with a possible location change we may lose some but will gain some too.We feel the best overall time of year is the fall; the weather is better, costs are lower, and the crowds are less.

TESTING 123: Are you still there!

TESTING 123! It has been 5 years since we posted here so this is only a test! I hope this finds you healthy and safe as we begin to create excitement once again for our reunion. Your reunion team is in the planning process of our next big event in the fall of 2023.

What can you do to help? Thanks for asking. Our biggest need at this point is to locate as many alumni as possible and ask them to join our Facebook group. Look through your friends for Class of 73 alumni and make sure they are connected. Right now we only have 204 out of over 650 in our class.

Lets make the 50th a big event and get as many there as we can!

Thanks

REUNION 45 a Huge Success

It is post -reunion 45 now and after getting some rest, I want to share some about the weekend. First of all, thank you to the Reunion Committee Team for incredible hard work and long hours to pull off a two night major event like this. I know we would all agree it was worth every effort. Our class doesn't just show up and eat dinner somewhere and visit, we have weekend events with all the bells and whistles. When the committee first met about a 45th reunion, we said lets do it but on a smaller scale of the last reunion since it was a mid term event. Well, that didn't happen! As we talked and planned, we got so excited that we went all out again. Now, the 45th is going to be hard to beat.

I am always amazed at how our class doesn't see each other for 5 or 10 years and when we get back together we just pick up right where we left off. That comes from our theme "Friends for Life". Our class is so special and unique in that we are all close and have nothing less than great memories of high school days. We had 623 people graduate in 1973 and ever since that day, we just get closer and closer together. What am amazing class we are.

The venue was awesome and embraced us perfectly. I loved the the outdoor setting and buffet and bar and the grass area under the lights. We also had AC indoors but really not many even took advantage of that area. The outdoor setting proved to me fun and exciting. Add in all the decorations and the themed look, it was amazing! When Jeff and Bob and I looked at the venue, we immediately started envisioning a fun event and the ideas were flowing. We left that day pumped at the thought of having our reunion there.

It all came out great and was so much fun. Thank God for the perfect weather and ocean breeze to keep the bugs away and keep us cool. The beach was clean and the waves were a refreshing sound all night at the beach party.

THANK YOU to those that were able to attend and those that could not make it, please plan for the 50th reunion in the year 2023. God willing we are all still around for it.

Reunion 45 Friends for Life is Happening

We hope you registered for Reunion 45 "Friends for Life", because WE ARE GOING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.

You did it Tigers. In just two weeks we went from 19 tickets sold to 68. Even though our goal is 75 tickets sold by Sept 1, we are going to make this happen anyway. How could we NOT after so much energy, fun, and excitement the past two weeks. The Reunion Team is blown away at how you responded and helped make this happen. THANKS SO MUCH Class of 73 Alumni!

CARROLL CLASS OF 73 ROCKS

Yes, we still need more tickets sold but more importantly, we want to see you there. It takes a lot of work and planning and funds to host reunions, but we can make it. We hope to have over 100 tickets sold by the start of the event knowing some will even pay at the door.

GOOD NEWS
Seashell Village Resort still has 25 rooms left that are blocked out for our reunion. They will hold our block closed to the public until Sept 12. After that we lose our block and anyone can book them so dont wait too long to make your reservation. That way you can stay at the event site and make a weekend out of it.

PLEASE READ: REUNION 45 MAY NOT MAKE IT

FIRST OF ALL, PLEASE FORGIVE THE LENGTH OF THIS ARTICLE. It is well worth the read though and the bottom paragraph is the emphasis. Thank you!

Why Attend a High School Reunion
Rick Cadden

The Class of 73 proudly presented over 600 students that day in May 1973 as we all lined up, robed up, with hats on and tassels dangling, ready to face the world boldly and with great anticipation. As I look back personally, I remember our class as active, fun, competitive, smart, and full of energy. For me, the biggest part was friendships. (I did learn) Back in those days families did not move around as much as today. My family lived in the same home for 30 years, all through my school years. I graduated from high school with the same kids I went to elementary school with. That is so cool!

My best friend today that I still travel with and see all the time is from 5th grade at Calk Elementary. Most of my 6th grade class picture graduated from Carroll with me. During high school I was fortunate enough to make friends for life. I realize that not everyone was that fortunate. We all have different personalities. However, our class was special. We not only went to learn but we did life together. Some were involved in Young Life, band, drama, sports, mechanic shop, journalism, Drill Team, and so many other activities that went beyond classroom time and gave us the opportunity to build friendships.

Reunions are for re-kindling those friendships. Reunions are for remembering the good times and the fun times but ultimately the great times of friendships. Our class "moto" since 1973 is "Friends for Life". If you have attended any reunion from our class, you have seen or heard that said. Reunions are to celebrate friendship. Reunions are for celebrating and remembering life together during high school. Reunions are an extension of high school that bonds us and keeps us friends for life.

In the year 2000, I lost both parents within three months. What a traumatizing time that was for me and my family for my mom and dad to pass away so close. I will never forget seeing two high school dear friends show up at my mom's funeral. As they walked up to the church, I started tearing with joy that two classmates, friends for life, took the time to come and encourage me that day.THAT my friends is what reunions are for, to continue the friendships. I am sure you have stories like that as well. That is why I attend reunions. To keep the friendships I have made in our class alive and active.

We are way past the reunion where we compare, see what people look like, how much money they make, or what they accomplished after high school. We had those and we still had fun! Reunions for our class are all about re-kindling friendships and remembering great times in our lives together. All our reunions have been a success in doing those two things and that is our purpose when planning reunions. I have been on the planning team for every reunion so I know about why we have them and its all about alumni reassembling for fun. I attend reunions to see you, to visit with you, and hang out and have fun, and tell stories of high school, and to see how you are doing today.

Update from the Reunion Team
Now the sad news. Reunion 45 is not shaping up well and we are almost at the point where we will need to cancel and not reassemble. The Reunion Team has spent long hours and spent so much energy in planning but ticket sales are super low. Low enough that if they dont quad triple in a few weeks, we will have to cancel and cover our loses. This is so disappointing that we will not all get to see each other this year.

Every reunion, the team tries to plan according to interest. We send surveys asking alumni many questions and then we plan based on how you responded. We have held reunions at the high school, at a park in town, at hotels in town, and one at the beach. We hosted live bands, DJ's, music from our time, of many genre's. We have done semi-formal and casual. We had dinners, snacks, we grilled burgers, we had beef, chicken, and seafood. We have offered a wide variety over the years to please as many as possible based on what you asked for.

We offered to plan a 45 year reunion since we are not getting any younger. We planned live music, an incredible indoor/outdoor facility, catered food of variety, two nights full of gathering time, and secured rooms at the location on site at a discount for you. We promoted the reunion date on Jan 21, 2018 and have been promoting the best we know how for 8 months now. We set up on-line registration and payment to make it easy for you. We have done all we know to do, yet as of today only 21 tickets have been sold including spouses. We have 165 people on our Facebook page and at almost every posting we get around 100 views, yet 21 tickets sold?. We have some emails and they were notified. We all stay in contact with alumni and we notified them. Although our purpose and goal is all about friendships and fun, there is the behind the scene costs related to each event that has to work. The reunion team does this as volunteers and the entire event is planned based on ticket sales as the sole source of income.

LONG STORY SHORT, we are giving the event until September 1st, to have at least 75 tickets sold, or we will be forced to cancel the event. If the event is canceled everyone that paid will get refunded no problem. We have done what we can to make this an exciting and fun event, now it is up to the alumni to purchase tickets and attend. Come on Class of 73 Alumni, lets make this happen. Thanks so much for reading to the bottom of this article.

You can see who is attending and how many have registered click here.

Some of us will be turning 64 this year so here is a tribute to you.  Click to hear  When I'm 64.

Reunion 45 is approaching fast and will catch some of us turning 64. What a great way to celebrate by attending our class reunion this October. So, lets get the party started and do a few things to get ready to celebrate Carroll Class of 73 Friends for Life Reunion 45. Step 1 - register on line and get your tickets. Step 2- reserve your room at the Seashell village Resort in Port A.  Step 3- spread the word to every alumni you are in contact with. Lets get as many as possible for the fun weekend.

Reunion 45 Confirmed for October 12-13, 2018

After considering several venue locations, we feel our best choice is to host the event at Seashell Village Resort in conjunction with Third Coast Theater. Seashell Village is up and running and has 50 rooms for us to book. There is both a large outside area for us to use plus an inside area if weather chooses to not cooperate. Several other high schools have used this venue for reunions and gave us very positive feedback. It is just minutes from the beach access and looks like a super fun place to hang out with alumni. The date has changed from the original date we wanted. The new date for the reunion will be Friday and Saturday nights October 12-13, 2018. We apologize for any inconvenience from posting a different date in earlier posts.

Now that we have a confirmed date the Reunion Team is getting busy with plans to make this the second best reunion ever. (hard to beat the 40th but who knows). Friday night beach tent party with food, music, bonfire, and lots of hang time on the beach. Hang out together around town and go fishing, boating, eat some seafood, sand volleyball, rent a beach cart, or lay on the beach and read a good book. Saturday night main event with catered meal, music, more hang time, awards, and fun. As we get this going we will open up event registration again with all the details plus we will start posting details here at reunion central.

What can you do to help? Find and contact alumni to get them plugged in here and our Facebook page. If your email has changed since Reunion 40, send us a new email to carrollreunion@yahoo.com.

Reunion 45 Date and Location

The Reunion Committee thought that we better have another party since we "aint gettin" any younger. Next year, 2018, will mark our 45th year since we graduated and that deserves a big celebration. Mostly our 45th reunion will be a repeat from the 40th. According to a recent alumni survey, an overwhelming majority asked that it be in Port A near the beach and in October again.

Our biggest challenge is with Port A so torn up from hurricane Harvey. We have been in contact with many venues but not one could book us at this time. Most are saying that it will be Jan before they will start booking again. Please bear with us as we make plans for next year knowing that they are tentative at this point and will be confirmed as soon as we can.
Here it comes....wait for it....wait.....ok

REUNION 45: Friends for Life, Carroll Class of 73, will be held in Port A on October 5-6, 2018

There you have it Tiger friends. Once we are able to confirm a venue location we will do our very best to keep that date. There will be a Friday night beach event and a Saturday night party like never before. There will be accommodations on site as well. Just know that the Reunion Committee is working hard to make this event incredibly fun  and affordable for all.

Go Tigers!
